What is so important about being social, and what does it mean to be social?

What does it mean by social being?
A social being is a creature (human or animal usually) that interacts regularly with others and cooperates with others to achieve common goals.
Humans are social animals as are cats. We mostly don't get or own food except through cooperation with others, nor do we find our partners by ambushing them in an open field. And when we need to know something we most often ask somebody, sometimes on Quora.
If you dig deep enough most animals are somewhat social. A lone wolf might be alone for a while, but most of the times it lives in a pack. Sharks are usually alone.
As a phrase, saying that "man is a social being" is usually followed by explaining why we need to do something together or why you should not be alone.
Is it important to be socialize?
